Body you call home

I wrote this poem for my sister, who is one of the most beautiful people I know.

There’s more beauty
Than I’ve ever known
In the body you call home.

A shoebox full of sequins
That’d overwhelm another
Only make you shine brighter.
You radiate, bright white
Like the night’s first star
Guiding us with your light.

You’re a firework, spinning
Endlessly, setting ablaze
Everything in your path.
You put a thousand men’s hearts
On the line, eyes on the curve
Of your shimmering spine.

Take in these stares,
Like moths to moonlight
Soak your soul in them
Take it all in your stride.

With the twitch of a laugh
The click of a heel,
Drink it in, let it be known
That beauty resides
Not up high, but somewhere
In this body you call home.
